I am not Joking, this book changed my life. OMG! I remember the first time I picked this book up. I finished it in two days. I read it over breakfast, lunch, dinner, in the train on my way to work and even read why walking on the street almost bumping onto people as I walked. I tell you I could not drop it until I got to the last page. I remember telling everyone I knew and would listen please buy and read this book.
The most important aspect of reading any book is when you can see the results from practicing the principles laid out in such books. The Richest Man In Babylon was one book I found myself benefiting greatly from when I was able to put the principles into practice.
I will try to control myself in this review and keep it really short, because this book gives me goose pimple when I talk about it. I feel very excited because of the result I saw in my life from reading this book. When I first saw the word “BABYLON”, I thought here we go, this book will be hard to read because it will have a lot of Babylonia terms. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a very easy read book written in story format to teach economic tips and tools for financial success. It uses a story format to explain how two friends learnt how to improve their poor financial situation through seeking advice from a friend whose wealth appeared to be limitless.
This is a classic book on personal finances which teaches you to save money and invest well into your future. Most books about finances will not stick but the story telling style of this book helps to convey important lesson to you like you have someone by your side telling you what to do. One of my favorite quotes from the book is
“I found the road to wealth when I decided that a part of all I earned was mine to keep. It should not be less than a tenth no matter how little you earn. Pay yourself first”.
“Wealth like a tree grows from a tiny seed”
By reading this book, you will be able to learn these following principles for improving your financial situation which was laid in the book as Seven remedies for a lean purse:
1. First fatten your purse
By making sure that for each 10 coins you have, spend 9 and keep 1 in your purse.
2. Control your expenditures
Budget your expenses so that you may have coins to pay for your necessities, enjoyments and worthwhile desires with the 9 coins you have available to use.
3. Make your gold multiply
You must put in use each coin that is in your purse to labour so that it can reproduce itself and help bring you income, a stream of wealth that will flow constantly into your purse.
4. Guard your treasures from loss
By investing only where your principles is safe, where it may be reclaimed if desired, and where you will not fail to collect a fair rental. Do this by seeking for advice from the wise and experienced people.
5. Make your home a profitable Investment
Blessings come to the man who owns his own home. So own your own home.
6. Insure a future income
Provide in advance for the needs of your old age and for the protection of your family.
7. Increase your ability to earn
By investing in yourself to become wiser and skillful. You are the most important asset.
I am very optimistic that if you start following these principles straightaway that you will soon see a remarkable improvement in your situations. In this book; The Richest Man In Babylon George, S. Clason also talked about the 5 laws of Gold, meaning 5 laws of money. A lot of people lack the understanding of what money is and its purpose in our lives. Read this book to get more information and knowledge.
